Excellent follow up book
By Mamma x 4
This is a terrific follow up to Lean for Life. This cookbook gives an abbreviated explanation of the Method--I wouldn't just buy the cookbook without Lean for Life.

The cookbook is divided into meals and snacks, similar to L for L. These recipes are written for servings of 4 or more, which is helpful for family meal planning. Also included is a section called "10 extra energy sides," for family meals and times when, as Louise says, her energy requirements are higher. Translation--rounding out your family meal, and when you're needing a bit more to eat.

There are a few chocolate and other sweet-tooth recipes!!! Thank goodness.

Lean for Life is working for me--I'm a big believer. These recipes aren't the standard fare, but they're delicious, and I've enjoyed trying new dishes. I've really enjoyed transforming my body. This works. Simple as that.

Amazon.com Review
This heartbreaking and inspiring book goes a long way toward fulfilling the wish one of its authors, LeAlan Jones, makes in his epigraph: "You must learn our America as we must learn your America, so that, maybe, someday, we can become one." Based on hours and hours of taped interviews that Jones and Lloyd Newman, two high school students, conducted for two National Public Radio documentaries they prepared in 1993 and 1995, Our America is a no-holds-barred look at the devastatingly poor Chicago neighborhood in which they live. It's a world where elementary school students learn about sex and drugs before they learn how to read, and where many boys do not expect to live to be 20. You finish the book marveling not that so many of those who people it are trapped, but wondering that anyone survives at all.

From Library Journal
When they were 13, Jones and Newman gained notoriety by telling personal stories of life in the poor, violent, and desolate world of Chicago's Ida B. Wells Homes in the award-winning National Public Radio (NPR) documentaries "Ghetto Life 101" and "Remorse: The 14 Stories of Eric Morse." Drawing from more than 100 hours of tapes unused in the original broadcasts, the now 17-year-old authors, with assistance from NPR producer Isay, have created a frank and provocative view of America's minorities from the inside out and bottom up. Scrutinizing life in their poor South Side neighborhood through the experiences of friends, families, and teachers, the authors reveal how disenfranchised from mainstream America the ghetto has become. Jones poignantly states in the opening, "We live in a second America where the laws of the land don't apply and the laws of the street do." A powerful, rousing message for all concerned readers.?Michael A. Lutes, Univ. of Notre Dame Lib., Ind.

From Kirkus Reviews
Stark testimony from two black teenage boys who live in, and report from, the nation's worst urban nightmare. Isay, a leading broadcast journalist, gave voices to America's most socially challenged youth by giving tape recorders to budding journalists in Chicago's notorious South Side housing projects. With Isay's guidance, Jones and Newman produced award-winning documentaries on NPR that were aired as ``Ghetto Life 101'' and ``Remorse: The 14 Stories of Eric Morse.'' The latter production, which dominates this book of transcripts from the broadcast tapes, probes an infamous incident in which two boys, 10 and 11 years old, dropped five-year-old Eric Morse to his death from the top of their public-housing high-rise. Our amateur but persistent reporters record significant facts and opinions from the relatives of America's youngest convicted murderers (each family blames the other's son for instigating the crime). The larger crime here is massive unemployment, which fosters despair and its familiar retinue of substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and gang violence. Gunfire is so prevalent that the youngsters discuss ducking away from daily fusillades of bullets as though they were dodging a summer thunderstorm. Says Jones, ``In Vietnam, them people came back crazy. I live in Vietnam, so what you think I'm gonna be?'' The book's many photographs by John Brooks, another young survivor of the projects, powerfully capture these shell-shocked faces and landscapes. By book's end, college-bound Jones has outpaced his struggling friend Newman, demonstrating perhaps how an absent father can be better than an openly self-destructive one. Readers can be both cheered and dismayed by the fact that only Jones's extraordinary luck and talent have bumped him off the penitentiary/cemetery track. This rough yet eloquent report from the edge of humanity forcefully reminds us that a new generation is even now struggling to survive on our urban battlefields, and to escape. Our America
By L. S. Muscato
Our America, a book by two young boys from a housing project on the South Side of Chicago, is raw and beautiful all at once. It tells the story of the authors, LeAlan Jones and Lloyd Newman, as they make their way in the Ida B. Well's housing project and tell the story of a five year-old's death from one of the buildings. The book, which was written by the boys in collaboration with author David Isay, is part journalism, part activism and part reflection. It takes a very factual look at the events of the child's death, there are transcriptions from interviews, and there are their own ramblings and editorializing about what's going on in their part of the country.

The boys become involved simply by bringing their notebooks, pens, tape recorders, cameras (and their instincts) to their own neighborhood. Interview subjects include teachers, young children, cousins, neighbors, the chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority, police officers and lawyers. Their approach is direct and simple - they ask the tough questions of the people in charge. For example, Lloyd asks the CHA chairman, "Would you want your kids growing up in these public houses?" With the help of David Isay, LeAlan and Lloyd become the chroniclers of their particular time and place.

The book's readability level is low - at maximum, it's on a fifth grade level in terms of vocabulary and sentence structure. However, the themes and issues developed in the book are far more advanced. Students of any age level in high school should be able to grasp the content and then think critically about the issues it presents around racism, poverty, gang violence, family structure and public housing. It is a book aimed not only at young people but also the adults in power, the people who make the decisions that affect the poor.

Our America is not something to pick up for light Saturday afternoon reading, or to help you forget about the troubles of the world. Instead it's a book to crack open the minds of two young boys living an all-too-common reality, and face both the issues and the joys that they see every day. Its literary value is lesser than its cultural significance, one of the few books written by young African Americans and one of the few resources for genuine information about what their lives are like.

Our America is published by Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, 1997.

The voice of the voiceless
By S. Maae
If you are looking for a literary masterpiece, then this is not the book for you. If you are looking for riveting, real-life drama, read this book. LeAlan Jones and Lloyd Newman live in the Ida B. Wells project of Chicago. At 13 and 14 they were offered the opportunity to be journalists and to tell their stories. The book chronicles three years of their lives. They have a mission in writing this book. They want us to learn about their America, "Where we live is a second America where the laws of the land don't apply and the laws of the street do. You must learn Our America as we must learn your America, so that maybe, someday we can become one." They are pleading for those of us who don't live in the projects to find out about those who do.

Because the book is written as a script of the interviews they did, we get a sense of the real lives of the people in the projects. Alcoholism, drug addiction, violence are all a part of the everyday struggle. There are elements of hope too, found in teachers who care and a grandmother and sisters who are there for these kids.

The boys become investigative reporters as they try to find out the truth behind the murder of a 5-year-old child who was dropped from the 14th floor window of the projects by two other kids over a dispute about candy. They even talk to the attorneys and the police.

I'm glad I read Our America. I needed to hear these stories from those who rarely get an opportunity to express themselves. As someone who grew up in the suburbs, I take too much for granted.

Stole my breath
By A Customer
"Our America" was assigned reading for my course in Child Social Policy. It grabbed me from page one and I could not put it down until it was through (and then I read parts over again). LeAlan and Lloyd walk you down the streets of Chicago and let you have a little peek into their reality -- a world where violence and death are a part of every day life, and instead of focusing on grades in school, children must worry about survival. These young men represent so many children with talents and dreams and potential who are raised in an infertile, even poisonous environment. I wish everyone would read this book and realize that "America" shouldn't change when you cross the tracks.

Ego is the Enemy, by Ryan Holiday

The instant Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and international bestseller

“While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their image with sheer, almost irrational force, I’ve found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition.” —from the prologue

Many of us insist the main impediment to a full, successful life is the outside world. In fact, the most common enemy lies within: our ego. Early in our careers, it impedes learning and the cultivation of talent. With success, it can blind us to our faults and sow future problems. In failure, it magnifies each blow and makes recovery more difficult. At every stage, ego holds us back.

Ego Is the Enemy draws on a vast array of stories and examples, from literature to philosophy to history. We meet fascinating figures such as George Marshall, Jackie Robinson, Katharine Graham, Bill Belichick, and Eleanor Roosevelt, who all reached the highest levels of power and success by conquering their own egos. Their strategies and tactics can be ours as well.

In an era that glorifies social media, reality TV, and other forms of shameless self-promotion, the battle against ego must be fought on many fronts. Armed with the lessons in this book, as Holiday writes, “you will be less invested in the story you tell about your own specialness, and as a result, you will be liberated to accomplish the world-changing work you’ve set out to achieve.”

Review
“Ryan Holiday is one of his generation’s finest thinkers, and this book is his best yet.”
—Steven Pressfield, author of the New York Times bestseller The War of Art

“The comedian Bill Hicks said the world was tainted with fevered egos. In Ego Is The Enemy, Ryan Holiday writes us all a prescription: humility. This book is packed with stories and quotes that will help you get out of your own way. Whether you’re starting out or starting over, you’ll find something to steal here.”
—Austin Kleon, author of the New York Times bestseller Steal Like An Artist

"This is a book I want every athlete, aspiring leader, entrepreneur, thinker and doer to read. Ryan Holiday is one of the most promising young writers of his generation."
—George Raveling, Hall of Fame Basketball coach, Nike’s Director of International Basketball

"I see the toxic vanity of ego at play every day and it never ceases to amaze me how often it wrecks promising creative endeavors. Read this book before it wrecks you or the projects and people you love. Consider it as urgently as you do a proper workout regimen and eating right.  Ryan’s insights are priceless."
—Marc Ecko, founder of Ecko Unltd and Complex

"I don't have many rules in life, but one I never break is: If Ryan Holiday writes a book, I read it as soon as I can get my hands on it."
—Brian Koppelman, screenwriter and director, Rounders, Ocean’s Thirteen and Billions

“In his new book Ryan Holiday attacks the greatest obstacle to mastery and true success in life—our insatiable ego. In an inspiring yet practical way, he teaches us how to manage and tame this beast within us so that we can focus on what really matters—producing the best work possible.”
—Robert Greene, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Mastery

“We’re often told that to achieve success, we need confidence. With refreshing candor, Ryan Holiday challenges that assumption, highlighting how we can earn confidence by pursuing something bigger than our own success.”
—Adam Grant, author of the New York Times bestsellers Originals and Give and Take

“Once again Ryan Holiday has laid down the gauntlet for readers willing to challenge themselves with the tough questions of our time.  Every reader will find truths that are pertinent to each of our lives.  Ego can be the enemy if we are unarmed with the cautionary insights of history, scripture, and philosophy.  As was said to St. Augustine more than a thousand years ago, 'pick it up and read'; for to not do so is to allow the enemy to bring despair.”
—Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of HLN’s “Dr. Drew On Call” and “Love Line”

"In this day in age where everyone seeks instant gratification, the idea of success is skewed - many believing the road to their goals is a linear path. As a former professional athlete I can tell you that the road is anything but linear. In fact it is one that consists of twists, turns, and ups and downs—it requires you to put your head down and put in the work. Ryan Holiday hits the nail on the head with this book, reminding us that the real success is in the journey and learning process. I only wish I had this gem as a reference during my playing days.”
—Lori Lindsey, former U.S. Women’s National Team soccer player

“Philosophy has gotten a bad rap, but Ryan Holiday is restoring it to its rightful place in our lives. This book—packed with unforgettable stories, strategies, and lessons—is perfect for anyone who strives to do and accomplish. It's no exaggeration to say that, after finishing it, you'll never open your laptop and sit down to work the same way again.”
—Jimmy Soni, former managing editor of Huffington Post and author of Rome's Last Citizen

“I would like to rip out every page and use them as wallpaper so I could be reminded constantly of the humility and work it takes to truly succeed. In the margins of my copy, I have scrawled the same message over and over—'pre-Gold.' Reading this inspiring book brought back me back to the humility and work ethic it took to win the Olympics.”
—Chandra Crawford, Olympic Gold Medalist

"What a valuable book for those in positions of authority! It has made me a better judge."
—The Honorable Frederic Block, United States District Judge and author of Disrobed

“It's rare that I finish a book then immediately reread it, this time with a yellow marker in hand…I can't recommend this book highly enough.”
—Kevin Rose, entrepreneur and technology investor

"Forget yourself and focus on the work. Be humble and persistent. Value discipline and results, not passion and confidence. Be lesser, do more. This message is crucial, but the opposite of almost every other book. I wish everyone would read this. I need to re-read it each year. It's that important."
—Derek Sivers, author of Anything You Want

"In an age when self-promotion and celebrity are glorified to the hilt and 'hero' gets overused, Ryan Holiday's book is a reminder that the biggest impediment to achievement is often ourselves. Holiday retells stories of the famous and not so famous that will both inspire you and stop you in your tracks. This is a book to savor by reading it in increments so the power of the examples sinks in, leaving time for healthy reflection. If the rat race of modern life has you feeling burned out, Ego is the Enemy just might help you view philosophy as anything but a relic of the ancient Greeks."
—Edith Chapin, executive editor at NPR News

It’s wrecked the career of promising young geniuses.

It’s evaporated great fortunes and run companies into the ground.

It’s made adversity unbearable and turned struggle into shame.

It derails ambition, turns success into poison, and makes failure the most bitter taste of all.

Its name? Ego.

Ego is the enemy—of what you want to achieve, of what you have, and what you’re struggling to overcome.

It’s an internal opponent warned against by every great philosopher, in our most lasting stories and countless works of art, in every culture, in every age.

A modern work of practical philosophy
By Camden Gaspar
If ego is nothing more than a Freudian concept to you, then you may not have any idea how it’s holding you back right now. But don’t think that author Ryan Holiday aims to bore us with the same stale pop-psychology tropes that most books on the Self-Help shelf use to fill out their pages. What the author has provided us is actually a great work of modern practical philosophy.

Those familiar with Holiday’s last book, “The Obstacle is the Way,” will know exactly what practical philosophy means. Eschewing the commonly held view that philosophy is the province of academics in classrooms bloviating about abstract concepts, Holiday follows the Stoic tradition that puts philosophy firmly in the realm of everyday life. It’s about learning to deal with destructive emotions, unpredictable circumstances, self-interested people, and yes, ego, without succumbing to them. It’s philosophy as a way of achieving a better life.

In “Ego is the Enemy,” Holiday moves beyond the clinical definitions of ego and places the concept firmly in the realm of the practical. To be sure, the clinical and the practical in this case have some common ground. Modern psychologists define the ego as a critical part of identity construction, and further, an egotist as someone excessively focused on himself. Holiday defines ego along those lines: “an unhealthy belief in our own importance. Arrogance. Self-centered ambition…It’s when the notion of ourselves and the world grows so inflated that it begins to distort the reality that surrounds us.”

The idea that becoming untethered from reality is the primary symptom of an ego out of control is the thread that unites all three sections of this book. Holiday expands this idea throughout the three sections that form a continuum - Aspire, Success, and Failure - to show how this form of ego plagues everyone from the ambitious and striving, to the wildly successful and those who have been crushed by personal and professional defeat. In our own lives, we are always somewhere on that circle of aspiration, success and failure.

To this end, Holiday goes right to the sources of practical wisdom: the primary sources of great practical wisdom – Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Aristotle, and Martial to name a few - and the biographies of those who apply that wisdom to great effect or ignore it at their own peril.

This is where Holiday’s other key influence, strategist and author Robert Greene, becomes apparent. Like Greene, all of Holiday’s chapters start out with a short, pithy title sets the direction of the advice contained within the chapter. From there, Holiday mines the stories of great men and women who have either applied the advice laid out in the chapter title or ignored it and shows us the consequences of both.

For example, in the chapter titled, “Restrain Yourself” in the Aspire section of the book, Holiday launches right into the story of Jackie Robinson. As the first black player in the newly integrated MLB, Robinson faced discrimination and outright abuse at the hands of everyone from his own teammates and opponents, to hotel managers and restaurant owners and, of course, the press. At any point, Robinson could have lashed out, fighting back to defend his dignity against the injustices he faced.

But Robinson knew that if he fought back even once, it would end his MLB career and set the prospect of full integration of the league back for a generation. As Holiday writes, “Jackie’s path called for him to put aside both his ego and in some respects his basic sense of fairness and rights as a human being.”

Now, it’s likely that few of us will face the kind of treatment Robinson did, but the lesson here is that when we have ambitions and goals, we’re likely to run into the kind of people that Robinson did. The kind who react to your striving with cold indifference. The kind who aim to weaken your will with taunts and jeers. The kind who will go out of their way to sabotage you and undo all your efforts.

Holiday concludes here that ego tells us to snap back at these people and demand the respect we think we deserve. But that won’t earn it from anyone. We must ignore this impulse, no matter how badly we’re treated, and continue to work on our craft and ourselves. We must forget what we think the world owes us and focus on building our base, developing our skills and continuing to learn.

The rest of the chapters follow this same model, and plumb the depths of modern and ancient history to show us how those who put their egos aside achieve great things. Think of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick spending years doing unpaid grunt work and film study before finally getting a chance to put his knowledge into practice. Think of the great conqueror Genghis Khan seeking greater knowledge and expertise from those he defeated, rather than forcing them into silent subservience.

Yet, others turn themselves into cautionary tales. Howard Hughes was a mechanical genius who inherited a successful family business, and then squandered all of it through a lack of focus, entitlement and paranoia. John DeLorean had a great vision for an automobile company, but never built the solid foundation of leadership skills he would need to run a successful company.

Holiday gives us a healthy dose of both kinds of stories, and that’s what makes the advice in this book stick with us. Ultimately, practical philosophy is meant to be used in our daily lives, away from the safety of our reading chair. Holiday’s aphoristic style of advice, bolstered by memorable stories is what gives us the tools we need to remember this wisdom when our egos start to take control of us.

Holiday positions the three states of our lives – Aspire, Success and Failure – as being a never ending continuum. We must put our egos aside as we aspire to our goals, aside when we achieve them, and aside again when we flame out and have to start over. At each stage, ego threatens to knock us off the continuum altogether and lock us into an unproductive state of stasis.

Taming your ego is never easy, but it is essential when we are confronted by failure or bolstered by success, as we all will be in our lives. Ego can easily let both conditions become debilitating: With success, we think we can stop being humble and working hard. In failure, we can become paralyzed, blaming others for our rotten luck and ignoring the fact that it’s on us to right the ship.

Ego is always encroaching on us, even after we think we’ve beaten it back. As Daniele Bolelli puts it, a floor doesn’t stay clean because you’ve swept it once; you must sweep again and again. With this short, accessible book, Holiday gives us the tools we need to do just that.

Downgrading the Ego While Lifting Up the Self-Respect
By M. JEFFREY MCMAHON
As I was reading Ryan Holiday’s quotation-rich book Ego Is the Enemy, I began to realize one cannot simple tear down one’s ego. Such a process is actually twofold: The ego diminishes, and the self-respect flourishes. One event can’t occur without the other.

This is a spiritual dynamic albeit a secular and philosophical one in the hands of Ryan Holiday. He wants to “remind” us with “moral stories” to be our better selves, “our better impulses.”

A humanist, Holiday believes we can, as Aristotle said, smooth out the warped wood that is human nature. To smooth the wood, we must confront and defuse our ego. He defines the ego as “an unhealthy belief in your own importance.” He elaborates: “It’s that petulant child inside every person, the one that chooses getting his or her way over anything or anyone else. The need to be better than, more than, recognized for, far past any reasonable utility—that’s ego.” This ego “distorts reality,” and in fact disconnects us from reality (funny, as I read this book I thought of Walter White from Breaking Bad).

This taming of the ego, however, cannot be performed in a vacuum. We must at the same time, Holiday reminds us, find a purpose and find our dignity and self-respect. Purpose, meaning, dignity, self-respect, and endless curiosity are the antidotes to ego.

One of the most salient lessons I learned is that nurturing the ego is a form of death or as Holiday, quoting Robert Greene, refers to as “dead time.” In one of my favorite passages, we read: “According to Greene, there are two types of time in our lives: dead time, when people are passive and waiting, and alive time, when people are learning and acting and utilizing every second.” To be entrapped in our ego, is to recoil from the world around us, to retreat into solipsism, and to chain ourselves to “dead time.”

Another danger of ego is that it makes us fear the embarrassment of failure and ultimately makes us cowards. Holiday quotes Seneca: “He who fears death will never do anything worthy of a living man.”

All of us suffer from our ego, which raises its ugly head either brazenly or insidiously. It’s good to remind ourselves often of our ego’s dangers to others and ourselves. Holiday has written an entertaining, compelling, and helpful remedy for our ego’s woes. Highly recommended.

Everyone Should Read This
By Matthew Morine
This is one of the most needed books today. Everyone has an ego, and those who do not believe this truth, are the most blinded themselves. This was a great read, the stories are excellent, the wisdom is true, and the book helps to navigate an ego inflating world. "Now more than ever, our culture fans the flames of ego. It’s never been easier to talk, to puff ourselves up (4)". This is a book that everyone young person should read. It will inspire you to focus on substance, and not on image. We need more people of real character, and not more people trying to make a name for themselves. "Impressing people is utterly different from being truly impressive." The book talks about staying the student, still working hard, and realizing actions should be motivated through true motives. Too often we hid away from feedback, because we cannot admit we are wrong. We protect ourselves, but really behind these actions is an ego. We create static positions for ourselves. The author writes "It is impossible to learn that which one thinks one already knows,” Epictetus says. You can’t learn if you think you already know. You will not find the answers if you’re too conceited and self-assured to ask the questions. You cannot get better if you’re convinced you are the best." I really like some of the characters from history that the author talked about. One was General Sherman, and his approach to fame. Other men who were successful during this time, demanded power, but it seemed that Sherman was happy to serve, and be content with this truth. The book talks about the need to help others. Imagine if for every person you met, you thought of some way to help them, something you could do for them? And you looked at it in a way that entirely benefited them and not you. The cumulative effect this would have over time would be profound: You’d learn a great deal by solving diverse problems. You’d develop a reputation for being indispensable. You’d have countless new relationships. You’d have an enormous bank of favors to call upon down the road." Instead people sometimes write and work to help themselves, to create advantages for themselves, but this approach is more concerned with YOUR needs, and not those around you. Help others, and others will help you perhaps. Ego is probably one of the most destructive forces in the world today. Too many of fallen to its sweet song of pain. Great book to read.

Ten times better than what I was expecting...
By A Customer
I was expecting a WWE/WWF fluff piece similar to most WWE-published biographies and books that I've read before, sprinkled with some stories, supposedly written by the superstars themselves but we all just KNOW the ghostwriter wrote most of it himself and liberally changed the facts as needed.
I was totally wrong here.
This book is fantastic. It pulls NO punches with anything, as the brothers are refreshingly honest throughout the entire book. It's obvious that whomever helped the brothers write this took a backseat and just recorded what Matt and Jeff had to say, and the result is an extremely interesting look at the wrestling business and how two fans managed to make it big in the business. I was also SHOCKED at how honest they were with everything. From being critical of their fellow wrestlers, to each other and their friends...the boys pulled zero punches here. The result is, in my opinion, the best book the WWF/WWE has had published since Mick Foley's two biographical books.
If you're a wrestling fan, you definetly want this. Non wrestling fans might not be as into this book as they may have been upon giving Foley's books a try, which is my only real criticism of the book itself, but then again the market is so saturated with wrestling biographies as opposed to when Have a Nice Day came out that one really cannot knock the book for this. But for wrestling fans, marks and smart marks alike, this is a wonderful book. For wrestling fans - my highest recommendation!

One of the best I have ever read
By Johnnie Roberts
I have made it a goal in my life to actually read as many wrestling biographies as there are. No matter who it is or what its about. I choose to read them even if Im not a fan of the wrestler. Well Im not a big fan of the Hardy Boy Characters but I am a huge fan of what they can do. They can bring a unique style of wrestling to the ring and this is definently a good book.

When I picked up this book I couldnt put it down. I honestly read it in 2 days it was so good. Mind you I only had to put it down to watch wrestling and go to school. Other than that I was reading this book and it was one of the most interesting things I have ever read. The book details on how the Hardys grew up and how they started with there own little promotion. It tells about the good times and the bad times.
I love the aspect of the book on how instead of being one long read its more of a script. You get to hear the story from both Matt and Jeff's thoughts and its interesting to see where they agree and where they dont.
I insist to everyone out there who is a wrestling fan that they need to pick this book up. Trust me you wont be dissapointed.

Awsome Book
By Greg
This was probably the best wrestling book since Mick "Mankind" Foley's books came out. This not typical WWE thick and through like the last few books. This book did not dissapoint at all.
I never realized all that Matt & Jeff went through to become WWE superstars.
They were totally honest from relationships out of the ring to Jeff losing his passions/becoming burnt out of the wrestling book.
Both Hardy's have become 2 of my favorite wrestlers after reading this.
If you are thinking of purchasing a wrestling book I would suggest this one.
I originally got this for my sister since she loves the Hardy's especially Jeff but I ended finishing another book and just wanted to read a few pages and I wound up reading this book in 2 days.

Review
Academically first-rate as well as a bestseller....I am more convinced than ever of the need for Dean's book. -- Jay R. Kaplan, Wake Forest University

Falk's text is written in a highly effective and engaging style. It appears very well-organized and does a good job of covering many aspects of primate biology. -- John C. Mitani, University of Michigan

About the Author
Dean Falk is professor of anthropology at Florida State University and honorary professor of human biology at the University of Vienna. Since receiving her Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the University of Michigan in 1976, her research has focused on early hominids, brain evolution, comparative neuroanatomy, and cognitive evolution (including language origins). Research on cranial blood flow and australopithecine endocasts led Falk to develop the "radiator theory" of brain evolution and to question the conventional interpretations of certain fossils. Falk is the author of Braindance: New Discoveries About Human Origins and Brain Evolution.

wonderful book for introductory primate course
By K. A. I. Nekaris
I am using this book for a university level primate survey course. Though some books are now available for upper level primate behaviour and ecology courses, few of these books are accessible to beginning students, many of whom do not yet "know" they have an interest in primatology. This book is up to date, provides pertinent information on the Order Primates in a wonderful easy to read style. This information is accompanied by equally delightful drawings. Furthermore, despite her "accessible" writing style, Falk also introduces the beginning student to many of the important controversies in the study of primate behaviour and evolution.

Better books are out there
By A Customer
I have been working for a number of years teaching primatology courses, and find this text to be dead last in the list of ones I might choose to assign to my students. If one has little respect for the undergraduate students to whom one is teaching primatology, then it might be OK, but some professors take their jobs seriously. It is a bit light on science, has nice pictures with cutsey captions, and frankly shows an atypical lack of modesty for a scientist in that the author has had herself drawn as the model human in all her cladograms. Whether this book is poor because the author does not believe college students to be capable of comprehending a worthy text (like that of John Fleagle), or because she does not understand theory-driven issues herself is not clear, but in later editions more attention needs to be paid to issues scientific relevance.
More effort needed on this one before it is passable.

India's Erich Segal?
By Sam Santhosh
Amit Varma's `My friend Sancho' reminded me of Erich Segal's "Love Story' that had captivated millions during the 70's. The background setting, the time period and the story line are different, but Amit's love story also has the same depth, humor and beauty as Erich's.

For me, it is a great feeling to see a new author with talent - and Amit Varma made my day - I discovered Amit thorugh his new column in Yahoo India, which led me to his blog `India Uncut'. His writing talent is pretty obvious in his articles, and hence I had no hesitation in buying his first novel `My friend Sancho' which was highlighted in the blog.

The story is set in Mumbai, India, the hero is a journalist who meets a girl whose father was mistakenly killed by the local police. The story is developed well and the book is a truly enjoyable read!

Men cry out,
"I know it's wrong, but why can't I stop?"

This is a common cry throughout our culture from Christian men who are seeking to find freedom from the nagging grip of sexual lust. In "To Kill a Lion," Bruce Lengeman takes men beyond behavior modification and answers the question: "But what's driving the drive?" Some approaches to sexual purity adequately tell men, "It's bad! Don't do it!" but don't give men real solutions. "To Kill a Lion" is about destroying sexual roots. It is about who a man is, not just what he does.

In "To Kill a Lion" you'll discover:

How to be pure without being less sexual

How to close sexual doors to Satan that you opened at some point

How a man's sexuality is connected to almost everything in his life

how to trace your sexual issues back to emotional issues

How sexual freedom in your heart will bring new sexual vitality to your marriage

How you can get to the place where you want sexual purity more than you want immorality

Laying out the truth about men's battle of lust
By Ryan McFadden
Finally, there is a book that speaks about men's battle with sexual temptation and lust. It is like Bruce was drunk and wrote it all out. Provides great tips and biblical counseling. I have read Every Man's Battle, and I found To Kill A Lion more helpful. Gave it to a friend and helped him with his battle of lust. Every man should read it and have a copy. Pick it up today!

Great help
By PhillipCole
It can be tough for men to discuss lust, let alone seek out ways to deal with it. We know it exists and is a problem, but don't always feel comfortable talking about it. Bruce Lengeman writes about overcoming lust using practical steps in To Kill a Lion.

Using his experience as a counselor, and what he has gone through personally, Lengeman relates what he knows about men struggling with lust. He gives both an overview and details about how it is exhibited in men's lives, and root causes.

Even admitting you struggle with lust can be hard, much less talking about it, but To Kill a Lion helps by creating a starting point to examine your life and where you may need help. The biggest point I remember is just treating the symptoms will not do any long term good, the root problem must be fixed.

This book is written so that you can use it for yourself, or to learn how to help someone else. However, all men could probably stand to take a real look at the issue of lust, as it affects us all at some point.

It is a thorough look at lust, and how men can move beyond it and not be a slave to it. Lengeman never says that it will be easy, but that it needs to be done.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher as part of the BookCrash program.
