Great example of the process

Excellent read that discusses the process a leader goes through prior to committing blood and treasure to strategic aims.
IT is a deep read that looks into the thought process of a leader. Not a book for the historically shallow desiring blood guts of warfare. This read is truly a brain matter digest of the mental methods that Admiral Woodward went thru prior to operations in the Falklands!
Great read that gets deep into the complexity of problem solving.

A rare, no BS account of an extremely interesting and important military campaign.

I'm a retired air force officer and I've read a lot of these kind of books. This is the best military memoir I've ever read. What makes it exceptional is Admiral Woodward's readiness to admit his sometimes less than kind treatment of subordinates in the heat of battle. They became pawns on a chessboard to him and he readily admits it. His goal was to minimize his losses and if he had to place certain ships in extreme danger to achieve that goal, he did. Admiral Woodward states in the preface that after reading the book you may think less of him. I did not, but a friend I lent the book to did. Bottom line, its a rare, no BS account of an extremely interesting and important military campaign. Great book.

The Big Picture

This book only describes the sea/air battles leading up to the landing on the Falklands. I thought Woodward spent too much time justifying his every decision. It was interesting the first few time he did this but then it became a diversion and kept me from visualizing the big picture. Also maps would have been useful to keep track of where the ships and planes were located at the start of each engagement.

About the Author
S. CLAY WILSON’s personal epiphany occurred in the heartland over a half century ago when he discovered E.C. Comics. He has been drawing ever since. After years of needless college education in art department dogma, some military service, travel hither and yon, and years of shows and comics, he believes that if you’re not good enough to be a cartoonist, maybe you can be an artist. He lives and draws in San Francisco.

Not for timid reders, but unique, strong, well drawn and well printed

The format and the genre remind me of The ''R. Crumb Coffee Table Art Book'' (hard cover edition). The only thing I can compare Wilson's content with is Andy Warhol's Frankenstein movie, that was so horrible that it makes other horror movies seem ridiculous. Some drawings are shocking even to an old S. Clay Wilson fan, and any page, but perhaps some of the review pages in the beginning, will shock most people. R. Crumb learned much of his lack of self-sensorchip from Wilson.
The book is large format, well bound and well printed. It has a real folded and sewn binding, nut just glued in pages in a hard cover. The paper is very white and the ink is very black. The majority of the pages are in color and the color is bright and consistent. I often found myself using a magnifying glass, and I am short sighted. The pages are full of art. It is long for a book of less than 200 pages.
The content is unrestrained fantasy of violence, ugliness, lust sadism and death. Monsters from the Freudian id, as they said in the movie Forbidden Planet. The art work is not so much moderated by childishness as the comix, but it is still so unreal that we are reminded that this is pure fantasy, not to be compared to real life. I get no sense that there is anything evil about the artist. That is just the subject.
More knowledgeable comments are contained in the early pages of the book.

Interesting but missing most of his better earlier work

I bought this book hoping to see some of S. Clay Wilson's Zap Comix strips and drawings, like Captain Pissgums and his Pervert Pirates, and his incredibly gross and funny single-page panels. Those aren't there. This is an interesting collection of his early work and his later work. Most of the later work is so overcomplicated and overpopulated that the transgressive humor is lost. Robert Crumb's introduction is worth reading, but I'm still waiting for a collection from Wilson's great Zap Comix years.

A Midwestern Hero who is larger than Life

It is great to see one of the guys from Lawrence, Kansas make it to the big time. Wilson's original outlook on life was an inspiration to all of us searching for something different in the '60's. The art department at KU was living up to expectations of seeing with a different perspective. As one who devoured the days back them, Wilson was a feast. Lawrence had a beautiful identity back then because of free thinkers like S. Clay Wilson.

Will touch your heart, make you think, and inspire you to be your best

I love all of Jon's books but this one is particularly special for several reasons. First it is a true story about an amazing young man whose example continues to influence others more than ten years after his death. If you can read this without being emotionally touched you might want to check your pulse.

Second, while there are thousands of books with strategies to be a leader there are far fewer on how to lead by being a follower and by being a servant. What so inspired me about George's story was the way he became a leader without trying to be a leader.

And third, the book is filled with lots of great ideas for being a better teammate and a better friend - and a better person.

Touching Story of Someone Who Made a Difference in Such a Short Time

Having read all of Jon Gordon's other books, picking this one up was a no brainer. Very quickly I realized that this book was very different from the others. After reading this book you can add my life to the number of people that George has touched and made better. I strongly recommend this book for anyone that wants more from life. In reading this book it has cemented the realization that to get more from life I have to be and give more. Thank you George!

About the Author
Nita Rutkosky began teaching business education courses at Pierce College in Puyallup, Washington, in 1978. Since then she has taught a variety of software applications to students in postsecondary Information Technology certificate and degree programs. In addition to this title, she has co-authored the Marquee Series 2013, 2010, 2007, and 2003, Signature Series 2013, 2010, 2007, and 2003, Using Computers in the Medical Office: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2010, 2007 and 2003, and Computer and Internet Essentials: Preparing for IC3. She has also authored textbooks on keyboarding, WordPerfect, desktop publishing, and voice recognition for Paradigm Publishing. Denise Seguin has served in the Faculty of Business at Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology in London, Ontario since 1986. She developed curriculum and taught a variety of office technology, software applications, and accounting courses to learners in postsecondary Information Technology diploma programs and Continuing Education courses. Seguin has served as Program Coordinator for Computer Systems Technician, Computer Systems Technology, Office Administration, and Law Clerk programs and was acting Chair of the School of Information Technology in 2001. Along with authoring Microsoft Outlook 2013, she has also authored and co-authored many computer application textbooks for Paradigm Education Solutions. Audrey Roggenkamp has been teaching courses in the Business Information Technology department at Pierce College in Puyallup, including keyboarding, skill building, and Microsoft Office programs.
